The Missionary Housemother and Her ‘Daughters’: Voice and agency in female subaltern spaces in 19th Century Malabar.Amritha Koiloth Ramath & Shashikantha Koudur - 2023 - Journal for Cultural Research 27 (1):85-104.
The paper attempts to explore notions of public-private dichotomy with reference to collective agency and inclusion. It looks at a women’s shelter run by a missionary wife Julie Gundert of the Basel Mission in nineteenth-century Malabar. The missionaries played a key role in the introduction of printing and the development of a modern public sphere in the region: a space, nevertheless, restricted to men from the educated elite classes. Julie’s shelter, meanwhile, provides an alternate cultural space where women, especially those (...)

    Stephen Bantu Biko: An agent of change in South Africa’s socio-politico-religious landscape.Ramathate T. H. Dolamo - 2019 - HTS Theological Studies 75 (4):1-9.
This article examines and analyses Biko’s contribution to the liberation struggle in South Africa from the perspective of politics and religion. Through his leading participation in Black Consciousness Movement and Black Theology Project, Biko has not only influenced the direction of the liberation agenda, but he has also left a legacy that if the liberated and democratic South Africa were to follow, this country would be a much better place for all to live in. In fact, the continent as a (...)

Xenotransplantation exposes the etiology of azoospermia factor_( _AZF) induced male sterility.Justinn Barr, Daniel Gordon, Paul Schedl & Girish Deshpande - 2015 - Bioessays 37 (3):278-283.
Ramathal et al. have employed an elegant xenotransplantation technique to study the fate of human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) from fertile males and from males carrying Y chromosome deletions of the azoospermia factor (AZF) region. When placed in a mouse testis niche, hiPSCs from fertile males differentiate into germ cell‐like cells (GCLCs). Highlighting the crucial role of cell autonomous factors in male sterility, hiPSCs derived from azoospermic males prove to be less successful under similar circumstances. Their studies argue that (...)
